blind The following lighting designers have been selected to head the lighting design workshops on the Sulzer site in the town of Winterthur/CH. The workshops are open to students and professionals working in the field of lighting design or related disciplines:


Susanna AnticoSusanna Antico, Milan (Italy)
Susanna Antico studied Architecture in Gent, (Belgium) completing her studies in New York, where she worked for four years from 1985 to 1989. She returned to Italy in 1990 and opened her own practice. She worked alongside Marco Marini from 1992 to 1997, specializing in Lighting Design on all architectural projects.

Since 1995 Susanna has focussed her design work in architecture exclusively on lighting design. Daylight design and designing with electric light have become her passion. Her work comprises both interior and exterior lighting with a preference for public lighting, city lighting and lighting master plans.

Susanna Antico is an active member of ELDA+ in membership matters and in the field of education, heading a workshop for ELDA+ in Lyon in 2002 as part of the Festival of Light project.



Prof. Uwe BelznerProf. Uwe Belzner, Heidelberg (Germany)
Uwe Belzner´s design practice in Heidelberg/D focuses on architectural lighting. Uwe Belzner studied Architecture in Berlin, which he followed with special training in theatre lighting. His work comprises both interior and exterior projects and is marked by aspects of both high quality architectural and exciting theatrical lighting design. Uwe Belzner has won a number of significant awards for his work, including an IALD Special Citation for the Footbridge in Duisburg, Germany and an IALD Award of Merit for the P3 high-rise warehouse in Lüdenscheid, Germany.

Since 2002, Uwe Belzner has been Professor of Lighting and Colour Design at the University of Applied Sciences in Coburg, Germany.

Henrietta LynchHenrietta Lynch, London (England)
After completing a Fine Arts degree in Birmingham/ UK in 1988, Henrietta Lynch moved to London where she worked as an assistant architect for Nicholas Grimshaw and Partners and started her architectural studies. From 1991 to 1994 she lived and worked in Berlin as an Assistant Architect. Henrietta graduated in Architecture at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College of London in 1997 and briefly worked for Foster and Partners before studying for her M. Sc. in Light and Lighting at the Bartlett and working for Maurice Brill Lighting Design in London.

In 1998, Henrietta joined lighting architects Speirs and Major, working on a number of renowned projects.

Henrietta is currently working as an independent Lighting Designer and Head of the Specialist Lighting Department at Fulcrum Consulting in London.

Michael SchmidtMichael Schmidt, Munich (Germany)
Michael Schmidt studied Architecture in Munich, Germany, where he worked in different architects' offices until his graduation in 1990. He started his career as a lighting designer with Ulrich Werning and HL-Technik AG, where he became head of the Lighting Design division in 1998. From July 2000 to September 2002 Michael Schmidt worked with Ulrich Werning and Clemens Tropp as an independent lighting designer.

In October 2002, Michael Schmidt founded his own design practice in Munich. Many of the projects he works on involve daylight design, or a combination of daylight and electric light. Michael Schmidt is especially interested in the effect of light in general, and daylight in particular, on human beings, and he is well-known as a lecturer on this subject. He is also active in the field of education: since summer semester 2003 he has been teaching Lighting Design to undergraduate and postgraduate students at the Biberach University of Applied Sciences.

Linnaea TilletLinnaea Tillet, PhD, New York (USA)
Linnaea Tillett has been principal of Tillett Lighting Design Inc., an architectural lighting design firm since 1983. She is also an environmental psychologist, receiving her doctorate in 1999. Concerned with the dynamics of human space and the role that lighting can play, she works in a variety of settings - public plazas, residences, parks and streets, landscapes and gardens, as well as contemporary and historic buildings. She has collaborated with architect/artist Maya Lin on several projects. Linnaea Tillett, whose work in pedestrian lighting for urban environments was used to establish guidelines for New York City neighbourhoods, has presented at transportation and pedestrian conferences throughout the United States.

Christian VogtChristian Vogt, Winterthur (Switzerland)
Christian Vogt studied Lighting Engineering and Design in Karlsruhe, Berlin and Ilmenau, Germany. From 1989 to 1997 he was Project Manager for Lighting and then Head of Lighting at Amstein+Walthert, co-founding his own practice Vogt & Partners in Winterthur in 1997.

Since 1994 Christian Vogt has also been lecturing Lighting Engineering and Design at the School of Architecture, Design and Civil Engineering of the Zurich University of Applied Sciences in Winterthur, becoming Director of the postgraduate course "Professional Architectural Lighting Design" at the same school in 1999.

Christian Vogt is a member of both the Swiss and German Lighting Engineering Societies, as well as of the IALD and ELDA+.
